ACP Foundation: Health Literacy

The American College of Physicians Foundation (ACP Foundation) has adopted the definition of health literacy developed for the National Library of Medicine and used by Healthy People 2010 (the prevention and health promotion objectives set for the Nation by the US Department of Health and Human Services): “The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate decisions.” (Parker & Ratzan, 2001) For more health literacy resources, please visit foundation.acponline.org
