is Health Information Manager same with medical transcriptionist?
I’ve been finding the most suitable job for me under SOL (skilled occupation list) and because I’m applying for an australian skilled sponsored visa. I found the Health Information Manager do some medical transcriptions so I thought I could associate it with my skills as a transcriptionist. Btw, I’m mainly a Voice and Medical Transcriptionist.

A Health Information Manager, at least in the US, oversees transcription and coding functions and is in charge of all aspects of the medical record, including its dissemination. More on health information management and transcription on the website below.

I dont think the job is the same – I have done a quick search on the main job site and there are a number of HIM positions which include the below job description

* The management of the Health Information Service
* Provision of timely and accurate clinical coding data using ICD-10-AM
* Collection and reporting of data for use in clinical indicators, research and evaluation of services
* Provision of education and analysis of Clinical Coding and Casemix information
* Co-ordinating responses to medico-legal and other requests for patient information
* Participation in performance improvement activities
* Ensuring adequate storage of all clinical records in correspondence with relevant legislation

BUT the main criteria for the several positions I found include a Bachelor of Health Informatics. Most of the positions I saw require you to have computer skills comparable to a computer science degree in order to maintain the database, install connections etc.

What you are describing is a secretarial type position, not a hospital computer specialist. If there is the work Manager in the title, the job requires management experience, organising projects, managing staff, performance reviews etc.
